Overnight #1

biketourcampThe FLCC Overnight Tour Series is a set of weekend bicycle tours designed to find those obscure and quirky places in the Region that make the Finger Lakes so special.

For 2015 we have set up two trips that include either B&B accommodations or a less expensive camping option. Each tour will require a volunteer to transport bags.

Overnight Bike Tour #1 – Skaneateles and Apple Country August 15, 2015 Destination: – Apple Country Retreat / Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards – Lafayette, NY Date: August 15 to August 16, 2015 Registration: Sign up deadline is May 1st.

Accommodations: Apple Country Retreat will accommodate up to 17 (http://applecountryretreat.com/). Note we have a block of individual rooms and suites reserved until May 1st at which time the reservations will be released. Primitive camping is available at Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards http://www.beakandskiff.com/. Maximum Number: 17+ Cost: Accommodations at the Apple Country Retreat are $50 to $75 per person (plus tax) assuming double occupancy. A $30 option exists for three couch surfers willing to share the Granny Smith Lounge. The suites include full kitchens and multiple bedrooms that become economical for groups that wish to share a suite. Participants must make their own reservations with the B&B prior to May 1st at which time the block of rooms for FLCC will be released. Accommodations at the B&B include a full breakfast Sunday morning. A patio with swimming pool and a large hot tub will be available for sore riders Saturday evening! For those wishing a more Spartan accommodation Beak & Skiff will allow camping at the Orchard which is 2 miles down the road. Dinner and cider tastings will be available at their cafe in the evening. The only catch is that once the cafe closes the only available facilities will be a porta-john or your favorite apple tree. There will be a $10-$15 fee for bag transport which will graciously be donated to the volunteer who transports bags so that they have a free night at the B&B and don’t have to pay for gas! Distance: ~98 miles: 45 miles Sat. / 52 miles Sun. (Additional loops to extend mileage are always possible). Elevation gain: ~5,300 ft Tour Details: This tour show cases spectacular Skaneateles Lake and Village and the apple orchards just to the east near Lafayette. There is plenty of time to stop, take pictures and enjoy the ride at a touring pace. Detailed route maps, stops and queue sheet will be made available to participants in May. Saturday – Overnight bag drop off at the Homer Junior High School (58 Clinton Street) between 8:00 and 9:00 am. The tour starts just down the street at Origins by Coffee Mania at 9:15 am. There are no services on the west side of Skaneateles lake so bring plenty of water and a mid morning snack. Lunch with sightseeing will be in the village of Skaneateles and a follow-on ride to Marietta on the north end of Otisco Lake. After Ostico Lake, we have a final push into the apple country hills west of Lafayette, NY. We’re still working on dinner arrangements for Saturday night but the plan is to either head over to Beak and Skiff Orchards for dinner and cider tastings or make ad hoc diners at the B&B’s barbeque and hang out at the pool and soak in the hot tub. Do not forget to bring a swim suite! Sunday –. Coffee and full breakfast are part of the package for those staying at the B&B. Campers are on their own. The morning ride will begin at 9:00 am at the B&B starting with a role down to the south end of Otisco Lake and back to Skaneateles for lunch and coffees. The ride will follow the west side of Skaneateles Lake. There will be numerous opportunities to stop and take in the huge vistas of these two finger lakes. As we head back to Homer.
