The ride starts in Trumansburg from the parking areas on Elm Street. Head south on Elm St, which bends and becomes Halsey St, then crosses NY 227 and becomes Searsburg Rd. The first is on Searsburg Rd to the crest at the National Forest trail. The second is about 2 miles from Montour Falls to Odessa. The compensation for it all is riding along the beautiful ridge of CR 4 and 8 (Skyline Drive), and the incomparable descent to Montour Falls. A food stop can be made in Montour Falls (combining it with a look at the falls) or (for those who like to finish work before their reward) after climbing up to Odessa. Both places have a food-and-gas "convenience" store; Odessa has a nice diner. A shorter option is to follow the route until it crosses NY 79, then following that route to NY 227 to Trumansburg. About 30 miles. A more strenuous, though not much longer, option is to follow the Cayuta Lake ride route (backwards). After turning left on 228 in Odessa take the first right, Grant Rd until it Ts on CR 10. Take a left up the bit of hill to the first right CR 6 (opposite the cemetery). Follow this road around turns and over hills to Mecklenburg, then resume the mapped route on 228.
