This lovely ride passes through some beautiful rollling-to-hilly scenery on the way to Lake Como --- which is not a great spectacle, btw; you'll have to pay attention to see it on your right through the trees. But the ride has been devised to include a bit of more serious work upon leaving Moravia. The aptly named Long Hill Rd gains about 500 feet in a mile or so and then continues more gently. After this climb, the riding is fairly easy.

See the route profile page for comparison of the variations.

A rather less strenuous ride may be had by taking 38 south from Moravia to Locke, turning right on NY 90, going 1.5 miles up the hill to Creek Rd (CR 48). Take the left on Creek Rd. Continue on this road as it winds its way to to the intersection with Breed Rd. Take a left on Breed -- note that this road has been paved and no dogs were sighted on the last trip -- for about 0.6 miles where it intersects North Lansing School Rd. Take a left and continue on the main route (right on VanOstrand).

Less taxing still is the route following NY 38 all the way from Moravia to Freeville and then backtracking on the beginning part of the ride (right on 366 to Lower Creek). Though we often avoid the state roads, this is one that makes for a very pleasant ride.

The full ride is about 64 miles, the Creek Rd variant is about 53, and the route 38 one is about 58.

A short ride, suitable for the "leisure rider" group, is to start in Freeville, follow the route past Lake Como to Moravia and then back to Freeville via NY 38. This is a ride of about 37 miles.

Moravia is the best place to stop for food or drinks. The market is usually open.
